Yes, that's right. I got my first B. It's the first one I've ever had in my life--including high school AND college. You may think this is ridiculous for me to be a bit...traumatized (?) but I have been working like a dog for my grades and finally a B decides to grace my report card with its presence.
When I first discovered what my grade would be (haha, no pun intended!) a couple of weeks before the semester ended, I felt sick to my stomach--literally. I felt like I'd been punched by J-Lo in the movie "Enough" when she has all the rings on her hands and she beats her ex-husband up. Tears welled in my eyes and my head started to spin. I was at work, so I had to keep my composure--I think I had to escape to the bathroom for a couple of minutes to regain myself. It took me about a week to accept the fact that I'd gotten a B and not get nauseated at the thought.
You probably think this is pretty funny...and pathetic, don't you? Yeah, I think I'm pathetic too. But not only has getting a B been bad, but this finals week has been the worst of my life--ever!
It started out conference weekend. I got really sick with a nasty cold. I was so sick that I slept throughout the whole saturday afternoon session and took cat-naps in all the other sessions. I didn't get any homework accomplished. I then had to go back to school sunday evening, and I still felt like crud. I rested as best as I could, but I was still really anxious over everything I needed to get done that week. I wanted so badly to start on it, but I don't do homework on sundays, so I couldn't.
Monday. I woke up at 7:00 am. I left the apartment at 7:35 am and didn't return until 10:45 pm. Did I get a lot done? Not as much as I wanted to!
Tuesday. Two finals and a HUGE test. I left the apt. at 9:30 am and did not return until 9:00 pm. I felt a lot of stress unload, but I still had my senior thesis to complete.
Wednesday. Went to three classes and work. Oh, and did I mention that I still felt really sick and nasty? Yep. I did. I had not recovered from my cold. And to add to that, I had also developed a painful stye in my eye! Ouchie mama is hurt and itched! I felt like Hitch when he eats something he's allergic to and his face swells up all deformed. That was definitely me.
After work and school, I came home and started on my thesis, but my mind really hurt, so I watched "You've Got Mail" with the roommies while I kind of put things together for my thesis. I couldn't fall asleep that night until 3:00 am because of stress, so I finally went out and slept on the couch.
Thursday. Woke up at 8:30 am and got to work on my thesis. I called in sick to work because I still felt lousy and I had my thesis to complete. I had an interview for the Manager position for Broadway Revue. The only good thing that happened that day was that I got the manager position. Yay! I'm excited but soooo nervous! Ok, back to my worst week ever. I worked on my thesis all day. 60 pages long and at 1:30 am (Friday morning) I finished it! Phew! I was FINALLY all done with my school work!
Friday. After I finished my thesis, I stayed up until 4:45 am cleaning. Yes, that's right. I did my white glove. I then went to bed for 1 1/2 hours and woke up at 6:30 am to go to my last class at 7:00 AM (Stupid finals schedule!). I came home at 8:30 and started cleaning again. Then I went to go to extra credit for my confict management class. I got home at 11:30 am and finished my white glove 1/2 hour before I had to be to work. I got it checked off and ran to work.
5 pm. My head's pounding and I was wondering how on earth I was going to make it home to Blackfoot. I was running off of 5 hours of sleep within the past 60 hours. The whole ride home, I had to keep rolling down the window to let in fresh air in order to keep my mind alert. Finally, a 6:30 pm I made it home. I laid down for a few minutes before mom said it was time to eat. I snarfed my food down and by 7:00 pm I told my parents "Peace out, I'm going to bed." I slept until 10:45 am the next morning.
It's now Sunday night and I'm supposed to leave at 6:30 tomorrow morning to go back to Rexburg and work. However, I still have my cold and I still have my stye. My body aches. My head hurts. I'm forever tired and I don't feel like doing anything. I'm calling in sick.
Thank you finals for coming at a time when my body already felt miserable. You have added to my human experience and I will never forget how miserable you made me feel. You can rejoice and relish in the fact that in spite of all my hard work and effort while feeling like hud during finals, I still got a B.
Was it worth it? I'll let you decide.
